Screen Direction - everything happens within and around the frame.

Actors must be told where in the frame to be in relationship to the camera and the other actors

  • The Number One position is where the cast and crew must be when the director says "Action," so that the timing and position of cast and crew are the same for each take.

Entrances and exits must be planned.

Timing must be practiced

Rehearsals must be practiced

Matching Action

Use the action at the end of the proceeding shot to begin the action of the present shot

  Shoot entrances and Exits
  Directors, Wait a beat after the reading of the slate before calling 'Action' and wait after the action to call, "Cut!"
  Camera Operators, wait a beat after 'Cut' before shutting off the camera
