Who we are
This website, https://www.qtw-dodropinn.com, is run by QTW Do Drop Inn in the United States. It is the hub for four sister sites: News, AI Education, Culture Shock and Family. This policy explains what personal information this site collects, why, and what you can do about it.
We do not show advertising, we do not use an outside analytics service, and we do not sell personal information.
What we collect and why
When you visit
Our web server keeps a log of each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested and the type of browser. We use it to keep the site running and to spot abuse. These logs are kept for 14 days.
When you create an account
To register we ask for a username, an email address, a password and a display name. Your password is stored in scrambled (hashed) form; we cannot read it. You may also choose to fill in profile fields such as a family name, a short “About Me”, your date of birth, who invited you and a family role. These are optional.
One account works on this site and on all four sister sites. Your display name and the profile details you choose to fill in can be seen by other people using the sites.
When you post in the forums or leave a comment
We store what you write and show it publicly with your display name. If you comment without an account we also ask for a name and an email address; the email address is not shown. With each post or comment we record your IP address and browser type to help prevent spam.
When you use a contact form
What you enter is sent to us by email so that we can reply. It is not stored in the website’s database.
When you use Local Chat
What you type is answered by an AI language model that runs on our own server. It is not sent to any outside AI company, and the site does not keep a record of the conversation.
Cookies
This site uses a small number of cookies, mainly to keep you signed in and to remember your cookie choices. They are listed in our Cookie Policy.
Who we share it with
Email that the site sends you, such as account activation, password reset and notification messages, is delivered through Brevo, an email delivery service. Brevo receives your email address and the content of the message in order to deliver it. We keep a log of messages the site has sent for 14 days.
The people who administer the site can see account information. Apart from that, we do not share personal information with anyone unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Account and profile information: until you ask us to delete your account.
- Forum posts and comments: until you or we remove them.
- Web server logs and the log of sent email: 14 days.
- Backups: we make regular backup copies of the whole site on equipment we control. Daily copies are kept for about a week and weekly copies for about two months; a small number of archive copies are kept longer. Information you ask us to delete can remain in these copies until they expire.
Your choices
You can see and change your profile at any time when you are signed in. You can also ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and the information that goes with it. We will act on these requests wherever you live. To make one, write to us at the address below.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please tell us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), passwords are stored in hashed form, and access to the server and to backups is limited to the people who administer it. No website can promise perfect security.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top.
